District Orienteering Competition 2017
Date: 07 April, 15:36
18 Scouts from four Troops, plus some brothers and sisters as well as a few parents who had a go at orienteering on the park at Southwell. The event went really well - Steve Green and his family who are all Nottinghamshire Orienteering Club members did a really good job and ran a fully 'professional' event again. The weather was just right. The winners were Matt Gregory and Tom Kessler from Southwell Woden Troop, Second were Amy and Ella Meek from 1st Redhill, and third were Oliver Salmon and Josh Yanney from Southwell Thor Troop. All teams got to all the controls in order (apart from one team who just missed one control) and so the winners were in order of time.
Photo shows the winning teams along with Matt Green (a former Southwell Scout) who helped to run the event

After a walk around the course, the 28 Cubs were ready for their age grouped heats. Ikki had planned an exciting route into Sherbrooke Woods with deep sweet chestnut leaves, hills where Cubs had to jump off and push their bikes up steep slopes, a fast level section before turning downhill and jumping across the dry ditch and so to the race into the finish funnel being encouraged by pack members, parents and leaders.
7 packs took part and the results were:
1st place: 1st Gedling
